Hanson, Aspen Schools, Edelman capture rec titles

Three teams emerged victorious from the Aspen Recreation Department’s Adult Basketball League championships held last week at the Aspen High School gym.

Hanson Equipment won the A Division Tuesday; on Wednesday, the Aspen School District won the B Division; and on Thursday, Edelman Enterprises captured the C Division crown.

In A Division play Tuesday, Hanson Equipment defeated Hannibal Brown’s 72-64 to advance to the finals against Aspen Sports, a team that bested J-Bar 66-62 in the other semifinal. In the finals, Hanson’s Ron Christian, Rick Magnuson and Scott Dorais led the charge in a close 42-40 victory.

In the B Division championship, Aspen School District overcame a 10-point first-half deficit to escape its semifinal with Snowmass with a 67-61 win in overtime. Whiskey Rocks bested Little Annie’s 51-31 in the other semifinal and met Aspen School District in a feisty final. Aspen School District prevailed 37-34 after a last-second Whiskey Rocks 3-pointer rattled out at the buzzer.

In the C Division, Sandy’s Office Supply beat Snowmass B to advance to the finals against Edelman Enterprises, a team that beat St. Regis 69-44 to earn a berth in the finals. Edelman bested Sandy’s Office Supply 80-63 for the championship, led by Dan Dewolfe.

The league’s end-of-season party will be held Wednesday at Whiskey Rocks at 8 p.m.
