Guitarist Sharon Isbin takes Aspen stage

Aspen Times Staff Report
Aspen, CO Colorado
J. Henry FairGuitarist Sharon Isbin appears as soloist with the Aspen Festival Orchestra on Sunday, Aug. 3.

ASPEN ” Guitarist Sharon Isbin received some well-earned attention for her featured appearance on the soundtrack of Martin Scorsese’s 2006 Oscar-winning film, “The Departed.” But it was a year earlier that Isbin, an alumna and longtime faculty member with the Aspen Music Festival and School, hit an even higher artistic peak.

Her 2005 recording with the New York Philharmonic featured three Latin-world concertos ” by Villa-Lobos, Ponce and Rodrigo ” one more splendid than the next. The dynamic Concierto de Aranjuez, by the blind Spanish composer and pianist Rodrigo, is featured on the program when Isbin performs with the Aspen Festival Orchestra and conductor James DePreist on Sunday, Aug. 3 at 4 p.m. at the Benedict Music Tent. Also on the bill: W. Schuman’s American Festival Overture, and Sibelius’ Symphony No. 1.

Tickets are $72, at available Harris Hall, the Wheeler Box Office or call 925-9042. Seating on the lawn outside the tent is, as always, free.
