Great teamwork on short notice
On behalf of the Aspen Youth Football Association and Three Rivers Youth Football League, I would like to thank all of the individuals that made the end-of-the-season Super Bowls a reality.
Due to the heavy snows last week the Glenwood and Coal Ridge fields were unplayable. I was called on Thursday of last week to see if we could host the games on our turf field. Everyone I called was more than willing to make this happen on very short notice.
Carol Sams, the Aspen High School athletic director, went out of her way, on a Sunday, to get us the field, scoreboard control and the PA system and the access to restrooms. Dave Lagrua, the district maintenance supervisor, was around to make sure everything ran smoothly, and the Martin family, all of them, Charlie, Cecilia, Theresa and Ellie, set up and ran a snack stand serving brats and hot dogs all afternoon, making everyone feel welcome in Aspen. And eighth grader Patrick Martin, a budding SportsCenter reporter, spent six hours announcing all three games!
The Aspen Elks Lodge sponsored fifth and sixth grade Skiers who unfortunately lost a tough battle with Meeker 12-6 in their second consecutive Super Bowl appearance.
Again, thank you to all who made this happen. I couldn’t have done it without you!
