Gratitude to rescuers

Dear Editor:On Dec. 13, 2005, at 2:40 p.m., a truck slid off of CR3 near Chair Mountain Ranch, Marble, rolling two-and-a-half times before landing on the roof in the Crystal River. The only person in the vehicle was trapped in the crushed cab, submerged in the river. An hour later, Robert Pettijohn, driving a county vehicle, was able to see something in the river. He and Andy Long were able to extract the driver from the vehicle and get help. We would like to thank all of the people who helped with the driver’s rescue:Robert Pettijohn, Will Handeville and the couple in the vehicle who tried to defrost him while waiting for Carbondale Fire and Rescue to arrive. We’d like to also thank the crew on board, including Terry McShane. We would especially like to thank Andy Long – your incredible bravery, determination and strength will never be forgotten. Our gratitude to all of you can never be fully expressed. Thank you.Todd, Jordan and Colton MaguranMarble
