Grant speaks volumes
August 5, 2002
The Gordon Cooper Branch Library of the Garfield County Library System recently was able to purchase a new edition of the World Book Encyclopedia in Spanish. I would like to thank and acknowledge the Carbondale Council on Arts and Humanities for a grant to the library.
Thanks to this grant, the library was able to purchase this new resource. This Spanish encyclopedia is a great addition to our collection because, while we are always trying to increase our Spanish collection, our book budget does not permit the cost of an additional encyclopedia.
An encyclopedia in Spanish will be welcomed by our bilingual students, both from the Hispanic community and those studying to learn Spanish as a second language. This is a resource that can be used by people who are not enrolled in a particular school program, but just want to look something up in their native language.
The Arts Council has recognized the needs of the library community, and by supporting this particular grant proposal have demonstrated their support of the humanities.
Thank you to everyone who supports the Carbondale Council on Arts and Humanities through memberships, the Mountain Fair, attending their many diverse events and volunteering.
