Gore to appear at Aspen summit

ASPEN Former Vice President Al Gore will be a featured speaker at a special public event during the upcoming Greentech Innovation Network summit at The Aspen Institute.The summit, a convening of world thinkers who will focus on accelerating greentech innovation, will be hosted by venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. Gore is expected to reflect candidly on the latest innovations and solutions to the global climate-change problem. The former vice president will be interviewed by John Doerr, partner at KPCB and a trustee of The Aspen Institute, in a publicly accessible session of the Greentech Innovation Network. His appearance is scheduled Wednesday, July 18 at 2 p.m. in the Benedict Music Tent. Tickets, priced at $10, will be available for sale on Monday, July 9 through the Aspen Music Festival box offices or by calling (970) 925-9042. He is also co-founder and chairman of Current TV, an independently owned cable and satellite television network for young people based on viewer-created content and citizen journalism. His latest book, The Assault on Reason (Penguin Press), note the institute, provides an analysis of how the politics of fear, secrecy, cronyism, and blind faith has combined with the degradation of the public sphere to create an environment dangerously hostile to reason.Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers has been investing in green technology since 1999, according to the institute. Since its founding in 1972, the firm has backed entrepreneurs in more than 475 ventures.
