Gold medal weekend

A gold medal “thank you” to all who volunteered, attended, cheered, cried, applauded and, in general, enjoyed a spectacular Aspen weekend that allowed all of us to “light the fire within.”

The city of Aspen, Aspen Face Off 2002, Miracle in the Mountains Hockey event to benefit the Friends for Sports and Recreation Complex (SPARC), and the Aspen Chamber Resort Association’s (ACRA) Wintersköl collaborated to provide the community with an unforgettable weekend.

A special Olympic thanks goes to our generous contributors and the silent auction donors. These people are the medal winners that allowed all of us to experience the true spirit of the Olympics as well as share the Aspen spirit of community.

We’d like to create a documentary of this outstanding event. If you have photos or video and would be willing to share, please contact 920-5082,

When you see people about town in red, white and blue hats with Aspen 2002 Olympic Torch Relay, please thank them for their volunteer involvement.

A committee of more than 30, and a corps of over 100 volunteers joined with our outstanding musicians, Olympians (seven former and current) and the torch bearers to present a memory that will be treasured in our hearts.

Keep the fire within all of us as we celebrate the 2002 Winter Olympic Games and the Aspen Idea – the renewal of mind, body and spirit.
