Glenwood, Gypsum teens in accident; 1 dead, 1 hurt
A Glenwood Springs teen was killed and a Gypsum teen seriously injured in a one-vehicle accident late Friday just east of Rifle.
A 17-year-old from Gypsum was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck east on Interstate 70 at mile marker 92 at about 11 p.m. when the car veered off the left side of the interstate into the median, the Colorado State Patrol said.
The truck traveled in the median for 300 feet, tipped and then rolled for 150 feet before coming to rest on its roof, the patrol said in a statement.
The passenger in the truck, a 15-year-old from the Glenwood Springs area, was thrown from the vehicle. He was taken to Grand River Hospital in Rifle but died about one hour later.
The driver also was taken to Grand River with serious injuries, the patrol said.
The names of the driver and passenger were not released early Saturday.
