Glenwood Canyon closure means heavier traffic in Aspen
Motorists driving in and out of Aspen can expect delays today and Thursday because of the closure of Glenwood Canyon, local agencies said Tuesday.
The canyon will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. both days for rockfall mitigation. Highway 82, both westbound and eastbound, is being used as part of the detour.
The 35-foot length restriction remains in place for vehicles traveling over Independence Pass.
In February, Interstate 70 through the Glenwood Canyon was closed for nearly a week, its longest closure in its 24-year history, because of rockslides.
Work this week will include the installation of heavy-duty fencing at the site of February’s slides, the Glenwood Springs Post Independent reported.

Vail broke the $200 lift ticket barrier during the holidays last winter. Aspen hasn’t topped the $200 mark yet, but both resorts are raising their peak prices this season.
