Glenwood Canyon bike path closed
The Colorado Department of Transportation said Tuesday that the popular Glenwood Canyon bike path is closed until further notice between the Hanging Lake rest area and Shoshone power plant and from Bair Ranch to Siloam Springs.
The Colorado River water level rose overnight, leading to the closure, said CDOT spokeswoman Tracy Trulove.
Streamflow on Tuesday morning on the Colorado at Dotsero was 9,080 cubic feet per second, above the average for the date of 6,640 cfs, but well below last year’s heavy runoff, which peaked at 17,100 cfs at the same location.
The eastern stretch of the trail was closed much of last summer after high water caused significant damage. The state made what it hopes are lasting repairs in the fall.
CDOT said workers will monitor the path daily, and people interested in using it should check http://www.cotrip.org and click on the Travel Alert tab on the home page. Updates are also available via Twitter @coloradodot.
