Girl falls 30 feet from lift

A 4-year-old girl fell 30 feet from the Fanny Hill lift at the Snowmass Ski Area yesterday after her ski instructor lost hold of her as she was slipping from the chair. The girl was not injured by the fall. She was enrolled in a Big Burn Bears class for young children when the incident occurred.Milt Fuehrer, a Chicago resident, was riding in the chair behind the little girl’s chair. He said she began slipping from the seat about halfway up the lift. She was seated on the end of the lift seat. Her instructor, who was seated at the other end of the lift seat, reached across two other students and held on to her as she began to slip under the safety bar.”The ski instructor was holding her for a for couple of minutes before she fell,” Fuehrer said. The instructor lost her grip as their chair cleared the water treatment plant about four-fifths of the way up. The girl fell at least 30 feet, landing in the terrain between the treatment plant and the top of the lift. Aspen Skiing Co. spokesman Jeff Hanle confirmed Fuehrer’s account.”The ski patrol took her down to the Snowmass Clinic. She was thoroughly checked out and then she went to her condo with her parents,” Hanle said.
