Getting out the vote

Dear Editor:

It’s time to early vote NOW! Colorado voters can early vote at the Pitkin County courthouse annex building (small red brick building next to the courthouse) on Main Street in Aspen now until Friday. Today and Friday hours are 8:30 to 6 p.m.

The polls in Colorado have tightened. Several of us have been working on this campaign since August 2007. This county has cobbled together an unprecedented coalition of Republicans, Democrats, young, old, wealthy, poor and many in between who have been putting in countless hours to help bring about change to our wonderful country. Everything we have worked for over the past 20 months will come down to what we do ” or don’t do ” to get out the vote.

As Sen. Obama said recently, “In one week, you can put an end to the politics that would divide a nation just to win an election; that tries to pit region against region, city against town, Republican against Democrat; that asks us to fear at a time when we need hope.

“In one week, at this defining moment in history, you can give this country the change we need. Change never comes without a fight, and it won’t come at all unless each of us does our part. It’s in your hands. Will you help make history with us?”

This election is the most important election of my lifetime. In the past two election cycles, many Pitkin County eligible voters have stayed home on election day and have been astonished by the results. This is not the year to stay home on election day ” too much is at stake.

Please join me in early voting this week. If not, please vote on Nov. 4. Every single vote really will matter.
