Get behind the peace initiative

Dear Editor:Today (July 25) is a historic day. The foreign ministers of Egypt and Jordan representing the entire Arab League are visiting Israel to support the League’s Peace initiative. The Arab League’s proposal to grant Israel full recognition and normal relations with its neighbors in return for returning to the 1967 borders and accepting an independent Palestinian state is a good and fair proposal. It is what should have happened in 1949 and thus gives the world a chance to turn back the hands of time and correct wrongs committed by all parties in this troubled part of the world. The United States, and the entire United Nations should get behind this proposal with whatever support is necessary to make this happen. We should measure the seriousness of Israel’s desire for peace as opposed to destiny from this day forward.Robert PewWoody Creek
