Longtime Aspen resident Gary Bratcher died Aug. 22 in Aspen of lung cancer. He was 48 years old.
He was born in Atlanta, Ga., and lived in Tampa, Fla., from the age of 10 until he moved to Aspen in 1984. A 1972 graduate of Chamberlain High School, he attended the University of South Florida.
While in Aspen, he worked for the Roaring Fork Transit Agency. Bratcher had a passion for his family and friends, the mountains of Colorado and the oceans of the world. He was an avid scuba diver and had been certified as an instructor as recently as last January.
Bratcher is survived by his parents, Winston and Doris Bratcher of Tampa, Fla.; brother Robert and his wife Maureen, and niece Nadina, of Carbondale; and sister Susan Ranon and her husband Carlos, nieces Lisa and Sara and nephew Andrew, all of Tampa.
