Garfield County Fair brings new events, old faves
Aspen, CO Colorado
RIFLE, Colo. ” It’s a regional tradition. And this year, it will be even better than ever, according to organizers.
Area residents are gearing up for the annual Garfield County Fair & Rodeo, which begins on Aug. 1 and will continue through Aug. 9. Most events will take place at the Garfield County Fairgrounds and at other venues around Rifle.
“We’re especially excited about this year’s fair,” said Dave Ebeler, Garfield County Fairgrounds manager, in a prepared statement. “We’ve always had a very strong showing of events reflecting our ranching and agricultural heritage, and a wide assortment of competitions from rodeo events to open class domestic and creative arts.”
Ebeler added that new events at this year’s fair include a wine-tasting event, a car show and a barbecue cook-off and contest.
The theme of this year’s fair is “Yesterday’s Memories, Tomorrow’s Dreams,” according to organizers.
The first Garfield County Fair BBQ Cook-Off will offer more than $5,000 in cash prizes, according to the fair’s schedule of events. Prizes will be awarded in four different categories: brisket, ribs, chicken and pork. The wine tasting will occur from 4-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, and will include wines and microbrews from all over the state.
The fair will also include several rodeo events, like team roping, an air show at the Garfield County Airport, along with community movie and dance nights, and dozens of 4H and Future Farmers of America Open Class exhibits and contests.
A concert by country singer Chris Cagle and Night Ranger is on tap for the fair. A schedule of events is available at http://www.garfieldcountyfair.com.
