Galactic joins Labor Day lineup

SNOWMASS VILLAGE Jazz Aspen Snowmass has announced the addition of New Orleans band Galactic to the upcoming Labor Day Festival, completing the main-stage lineup for the event. The Labor Day Festival is set for Aug. 31 through Sept. 3 in Snowmass Town Park.
Galactic will perform Sept. 1 on a bill with a pair of soul singers: headliner John Legend, and Britain’s Joss Stone. Galactic emerged from New Orleans in the mid-’90s with a sound that incorporated New Orleans funk and avant-garde jazz. Their forthcoming album “From the Corner to the Block,” a hip-hop-oriented recording featuring rappers Chali 2Na, Boots Riley, Gift of Gab and Juvenile, is set for release Aug. 21.
Previously announced headliners are soul-rockers Ben Harper & the Innocent Criminals (Aug. 31), the Allman Brothers Band (Sept. 2), and Gov’t Mule (Sept. 3). Opening acts include Nickel Creek, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi’s Soul Stew Revue, Jackie Greene and Leftover Salmon.
Performing on the side stages will be Southern rock band Tishamingo, soul singer Ryan Shaw and Ollabelle, with additional acts to be announced.For tickets or further information, call (866) JAS-TIXX (527-8499), or go towww.jazzaspen.org.
