Gagged by Skico

Dear Editor:

Every time Aspen Skiing Co. tries to squelch free speech, it backfires:

1. Dan Sheridan’s firing for singing the song “Big Money” last year at this time …

2. The censorship of the Aspen Daily News last year from all the hotels including The Little Nell … that did not go so well either.

3. Removing Lee Mulcahy from the Diamond Instructors in August for asking the Diamonds if they wanted to go to bat for the least paid instructors and for their thoughts on unionization (the NLRB rode to the rescue).

4. Suspending Mulcahy for discussing protected speech concerning wages for the least paid and distributing leaflets advertising People for a Living Wage’s meeting (both are protected activities under the National Labor Relations Act). Skico’s action ended up on TV all over the West and in a bunch of regional newspapers, and the NLRB has opened yet another investigation into a possibly unlawful labor violation. Good luck, Skico!

I cannot wait to see what happens if they fire him. Chicago Tribune again? Go, little guy. Boo, big money.
