Fur is not chic

Dear Editor:In Janet Urquhart’s article about Aspen fashion on Saturday, Dec. 31, someone from Polo Ralph Lauren advised women trying to be “Aspen chic” to wear fur. Perhaps they meant someone should wear fur if they are trying to be like an Aspen tourist who is completely oblivious to how ridiculous they look wearing animals that were mutilated and tortured. It is my observation that most full-time Aspen locals wouldn’t even consider wearing a fur coat. Today I witnessed a woman wearing fur boots and a coat with fur trim who threw a cigarette on the ground right next to a garbage can. I don’t think she looked very “Aspen chic,” more like Aspen cheese. Wearing fur speaks poorly of a person’s character and should only be considered cruel, never chic. Michelle FoxAspen
