Funding the future

Dear Editor:In response to the letter from Lisa Chiles regarding education funding (Letters to the Editor, March 15), she is absolutely correct that the Colorado funding for education is woefully inadequate. In Basalt, our state per pupil funding is even less than Aspen’s, and is approximately $1400 less per pupil than the state average (source: Colorado department of Education).Basalt Kids is a nonprofit dedicated to enhancing education in the Basalt Public Schools. We step in to fund music, arts, athletics, field trips, plays and more, to give students opportunities that might not otherwise be available. Tax deductible donations can be made at I completely agree with Ms. Chiles that investing in our children’s future is vital to continue the quality and success of our local schools, our children and the future of our state.Judi Simecekpresident, Basalt Kids
