Frontier Airlines pulling out of Grand Junction airport

Staff Report
Aspen, CO Colorado

GRAND JUNCTION – Frontier Airlines announced Friday it will be ending all service to Grand Junction Regional Airport on Sept. 14.

Frontier Airlines began service between Grand Junction and Denver in May 2008.

The airline has seen a gradual increase in passengers, but the slight increase has not been good enough to justify continued service, the airline said.

On April 11, 2008, Frontier and its subsidiaries filed voluntary petitions for bankruptcy reorganization. On Monday, Frontier Airlines Holdings, Inc. announced it had entered into an investment agreement with Republic Airways Holdings, Inc., which is part of Frontier’s reorganization plans under Chapter 11. A day later, the airline said it would end service to Grand Junction.

“When Frontier introduced service to Grand Junction in May 2008, they almost doubled the seat capacity overnight. In April 2008, Grand Junction added new air service to Dallas/Fort Worth on American Eagle. Grand Junction also had and still has multiple daily flights to and from Denver on United Express,” said Rex Tippetts, director of aviation. “Grand Junction is not losing service direct to a hub. United Express will continue to service the Denver market.”
