Frontier adds extra-bag fee

The Associated Press
Aspen, CO Colorado

DENVER ” Frontier Airlines is now charging travelers $25 for a second checked bag.

The new charge took effect Tuesday. Frontier announced the move last month as part of its efforts to cover rising fuel costs.

Customers who buy tickets on or after Tuesday will have to pay the charge. People who bought their tickets earlier won’t pay for a second checked bag.

Denver-based Frontier is also reducing aircraft fuel burn and using new flight planning computer software to track fuel and flights to save fuel.

Frontier began service between Denver and Aspen in April. It joins United, the dominant carrier serving the Aspen airport, in charging the $25 fee for an extra checked bag. United announced it would add the fee last February.

The fees will hit ski resort visitors who travel with ski equipment in addition to their regular luggage.
