Friends of Hunter Creek, it’s time to rejoice

Dear Editor:

Today is a real milestone for everyone who loves Hunter Creek. That extraordinary valley and the Hunter/Fryingpan Wilderness beyond are now protected forever from residential development.

The last private inholding, the Virginia Pet mining claim, is being purchased this morning by your open space and trails program. The sellers are Bill and Janet Mohrman, who raised their children in a yurt on that remote ridgetop, often skiing or snowmobiling to school and work. They, and a long list of inholders in earlier years willing to return their lands to the public commons, deserve our eternal thanks.
