Freedom of choice
Dear Editor:This letter is about Amendment 44, the marijuana referendum.Tobacco. Most cigarettes contain 4,000 chemicals (including 200 poisons). Over 450,000 deaths in America each year, a quarter of all deaths annually. Alcohol kills over 100,000 Americans. Living in Boulder (or any other college town/city) shows you that people aged 18 to 24 years old die from excessive drinking. Junk food isn’t helping the nation’s now considerable “obesity epidemic.” Trans fats, canola oil, and partially hydrogenated soybean oil don’t even digest and the only city that currently outlaws them in restaurants is New York. So, do you think the FDA is really looking out for your optimum health? They even stated, “only a drug can prevent, treat or cure a disease.” I guess the Carlyle Group and other Montreal medical masterminds don’t get rich by healthy Americans, do they? The cannabis plant grows on God’s green earth; it is not produced in a chemistry lab. Who gets high and beats his wife? My friend has no pyloric valve and cannot throw up. Marijuana makes her stomach better and is a safe alternative to alcohol. No one has ever overdosed on marijuana or even died from it. Seventeen FDA-approved drugs were studied for 8 1/2 years and killed 11,687 people. 10,008 of those were primary suspects in death. Twelve of those drugs were replaceable with cannabis as well. Please go to the website of http://www.glenwoodsmith.com and http://www.totse.com for drug facts on illegalization and its role in American society in the past.Vote Yes on 44 because it is also freedom of choice through responsibility. Even if you don’t enjoy its medicinal benefits, it is one more way to say “hey, I’m an American with the freedom to make up my own mind.” Thank you, together we can sculpt our country.
