Free music series now in town of Snowmass’ hands

Aspen Times Staff

The summer concerts in Snowmass Village are being handed over to the big boys. With the Snowmass Summer of Free Music Series gaining popularity, the Snowmass Summer Community Fund’s board, a group of locals who have volunteered their time and energy to bring free music to Snowmass, feel they can no longer handle the responsibility on their own. After 12 years, the volunteer group has turned management of the concerts over to the town’s marketing and special events department. “We’re very excited that the town now has a special events department that we can turn the series over to,” board member Doug Mercatoris said in a press release. “We’re very glad it’s in the capable hands of the town’s marketing and special events department and hope it will continue to get the community support it’s always had.”This summer the series will continue with nine Thursday night concerts, and Jazz Aspen Snowmass will continue to book and produce the shows. In addition, the marketing department added three free Massive Music & Movie weekends to the calendar to keep the music flowing throughout the summer and reinforce Snowmass’ image of “music in the mountains.”
