Aspen, CO ColoradoFred J. Glassier, 67, lifelong Roaring Fork Valley resident died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2006, of cancer.Fred was born April 20, 1939, in Glenwood Springs to Fredrick L. and Freda L. (Vasten) Glassier. Fred grew up on his family ranch in Basalt. He graduated from Basalt High School in 1957. He then served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Fort Riley, Kan., and taught communications at West Point.After the service, Fred returned to the valley in 1964, where he married and raised a family. He worked for Mountain Bell Telephone Co. in Aspen and Glenwood Springs for 20 years, along with owning a local construction company. Fred retired in 1989.Fred’s father, Fredrick L. Glassier, preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughters, Temple Glassier and Krystal Levy; sister, Joyce Glassier Smink; and grandsons, Dylan Palardy, Tristin Palardy, Patrick Palardy and Parker Levy.A memorial service will take place at the Church of Carbondale at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28.
