Having two of my nearest and dearest immersed in local media, I rarely feel the need to exercise my own voice in this way, but the news of my mother’s retirement from The Aspen Times compels me to acknowledge her right out loud.
Su Lum is leaving her post in the advertising department of The Aspen Times after 47 years. That’s one helluva run and is a transition of note. Just imagine the changes that Su has seen at the newspaper and in the town since 1965! Thank goodness she intends to continue writing her weekly column because she is one of the few remaining torch carriers of a passing era, a true and constant reminder of Aspen’s spirit and roots. Su is one of a kind. She is intelligent and well-informed and has the courage to speak her mind. Whether you always agree with her opinions or never do, Su stands for something, and I’m incredibly proud of her.
Congratulations on your retirement, Su, and thanks for the years of hard work. Let’s see what kind of mischief you can get up to now! I love you to the moon and back.
