Fortunate to police here

Dear Editor:

From all of us at the Aspen Police Department, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the Aspen Elks Lodge No. 224 for hosting the Law Enforcement Dinner on Thursday, May 14.

The dinner, held in recognition of National Law Enforcement Memorial Day and National Police Week, was a reminder of how fortunate we are to work in a relatively safe area. Sadly, 134 law enforcement officers around the country lost their lives in the line of duty in 2008.

We appreciate your support and the trust you, and the community, place in us as police officers. We will always strive to live up to your expectations.

Richard Pryor

police chief, Aspen Police Department
