Former Denver Broncos quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow helped Aspen-based nonprofit HaitiChildren create a special night for 10 orphans at a ceremony in Port-au-Prince earlier this month.

Tebow was a special guest for the organization’s Night To Shine event. Tebow greeted the children when they arrived at one of Haiti’s premier hotels, then helped them walk down the red carpet in gowns, suits and shoes donated by his organization, the Tim Tebow Foundation. Tebow carried children who could not walk. He then crowned each of the 10 children kings and queens.

HaitiChildren was founded by Aspen residents Susie and Joe Krabacher 22 years ago to assist the disabled children of Haiti. Many of them were abandoned and left to die. The organization cares for 65 permanent residents who are special needs children and 132 orphans overall.

The Night to Shine was designed to provide a prom night experience, centered on God’s love, for people of various ages with special needs, according to HaitiChildren. The television news show “Good Morning America” and People magazine covered the event.
