Forest Service seeks comment on new hut

Aspen Times Staff Report
Aspen, CO Colorado

GUNNISON, Colo. ” The Alfred A. Braun Hut System has proposed building a new winter backcountry ski hut about 1.5 miles south of Taylor Pass in the Gunnison Ranger District, and the U.S. Forest Service is asking for public comment on the idea.

If the project receives a green light from the Forest Service, construction would likely occur in summer 2009 or 2010. Materials would be staged on the White River National Forest near the existing Lindley Hut, south of Aspen, and flown by helicopter to the site. The proposed hut would be similar in size to the existing Friends Hut and Braun huts in the area, and would allow various hut-to-hut winter travel opportunities.

Information about the proposal is available online at

The comment period for this proposal will last for approximately one month. Comments may be submitted in writing by mail, e-mail, fax, or by hand delivery to: Taylor Pass Hut Project, c/o Bill Jackson; 216 N. Colorado St.; Gunnison, CO 81230; 970-642-4425 (fax); or e-mail to
