Forest Service hosts oil-and-gas open house

The White River National Forest supervisor’s office is hosting an open house on its proposed oil-and-gas leasing plan between 3 and 6 p.m. today at the Carbondale Fire Department at 301 Meadowood Drive.

The open house is being held so the public can ask Forest Service personnel about the White River National Forest Oil and Gas Leasing Draft Environmental Impact Statement. Residents are urged to submit comments about the plan.

A range of four alternatives will be presented that consider future land availability on the forest for oil and gas leasing along with the lease stipulations that would be applied to those lands for the protection of surface resources.

The plan is available on the White River National Forest website at

project=29938. In addition to the opportunity to comment at the open houses, comments will be accepted through Oct. 30. They may be submitted in writing by mail to Scott Fitzwilliams, forest supervisor, White River National Forest – Oil and Gas Leasing DEIS, P.O. Box 1919, Sacramento, CA 95812. Comments can be emailed to wrnfoilandgas
