For the birds

Dear Editor:

Loved Janet Urquhart’s cover photo of the cedar waxwings (March 24)!

It reminded me of Michael Brands’ photo of the pine grosbeak in the crabapple tree in the fall, a few years ago.

And that reminds me to mention that when the city of Aspen manages to eliminate all fruiting trees in town, they are helping to decimate the songbird populations as well as the bears. Some songbirds have decreased by as much as 75 percent!

Please help our environment by feeding the birds (hang it high, where the bears can’t reach the feeder) and please, please water a tree (or more) this summer. Thank you.
