At the beginning of the school year, my two boys informed my husband they wanted to try football this year. We hesitated as we had in years past because our boys are not big by any means and have very little extra weight ” in other words, we were worried they’d get crushed. We decided to let them try it.
To say it was a positive experience is putting it lightly. They had a blast this season and learned a lot about the game of football and about themselves. Both boys found out they could be effective and they learned to be quick in order to avoid being swallowed by some of the bigger boys.
We want to take this opportunity to thank our awesome coaches: Dave Beirne, Scott Davis and Jon Tick. We also want to thank Ron Morehead, who organizes the Three Rivers Football League. The experiences these men and the many other volunteer coaches in the valley provide for our youth is a beautiful thing.
Last night, after my sons’ last game, I came in and lay down in my younger son’s bed while they slept. My older son began thrashing about and all of a sudden began saying, “It’s a …” “It’s a …” He sat up, still sleeping, and yelled, “It’s a touchdown!”
I smiled to myself and thought about this awesome experience of playing youth football. May all of our kids have football dreams! Maybe one day they’ll be as fast as Bo Seguin!
