Fly the colors on March 29

Dear Editor:

On Feb. 26, 1974, President Nixon issued Presidential Proclamation 4720 establishing March 29 as Vietnam Veterans Day. The proclamation directed that the United States flag be flown on all public buildings on that day and requested federal, state and local governments, as well as civic and patriotic organizations, to give their enthusiastic support through appropriate ceremonies and observances.

Flying the colors in Aspen and Basalt on Monday, March 29, coincides with the annual Disabled American Veterans Winter Sports Clinic, which is held in our community from March 27 through April. 3 Our veteran guests have always been inspired when they view the United States flag being flown on our streets, buildings and homes.

Valley veterans salute our citizens for observing Vietnam Veterans Day on Monday, March 29. Thank you.

Lt. Col. Dick Merritt

U.S. Marine Corps (retired)
