Flag Day appreciation

Dear Editor: On Flag Day, Wednesday, June 14, the Basalt Regional Heritage Society hosted their annual Flag Day Celebration at Lion’s Park in Basalt. We want to thank all those who supported, attended and enjoyed an evening of fried chicken and hand churned ice cream, Bluegrass music, historical town and cemetery tours and a patriotic flag folding ceremony. Mason & Morse Real Estate, the Basalt Chamber of Commerce and the town of Basalt were our major supporters. Thanks to food servers Britton Lund, Basalt library director; Mindy with Toklat Gallery; Pam Schilling and Tanje Bellhouse, town of Basalt; and Pat Merritt. Bonnie and Adele Crawford provided chairs for the dinner setting. The Fryingpan Bluegrass Band provided foot-stomping music during dinner while everyone enjoyed eating fried chicken prepared by Two Rivers Cafe.At the commencement of the American flag folding ceremony, Town Center Booksellers played “She’s a Grand Old Flag” on their chimes heard throughout town. Thanks to Wal-Mart, Glenwood Springs, for donating handheld American flags to all those in attendance. Pan and Fork 4-H Club, bugler Danny Kapustka and Troop 265, Senior Girl Scouts of Basalt, performed the flag ceremony in a most patriotic manner. Thanks to everyone who supported Flag Day 2006 in Basalt in the small-town spirit of artist Norman Rockwell. Proceeds from the event help fund Basalt Regional Heritage Society programs.Dick MerrittCommunications officerBasalt Regional Heritage Society
