Five arrested for DUI

The “heat is on campaign” against drinking and driving apparently worked for Basalt police during the long holiday weekend and the days leading to it.

Five drivers, all men between ages 31 and 42, were arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol in Basalt between Sept. 1 and Sept. 6, according to town police reports.

Those arrested for DUI were:

Jose Sanchez-Veliz, 31, Snowmass, stopped on Highway 82 at 9:20 p.m. Sept. 1 for allegedly weaving.

Kevin S. Hofferbert, 39, Carbondale, stopped at Two Rivers Road and Hillcrest at 10:15 p.m. Sept. 2 for allegedly speeding and weaving.

Joseph G. Gavin, 41, of Aspen, stopped on Highway 82 at 8:45 p.m. Sept. 3 for allegedly weaving.

Martin Jimenez-Olivia, 36, of El Jebel, stopped on Willits Lane at 1:20 a.m. Sept. 4 for allegedly weaving.

Hidehisa Tsuzuki, 42, of Carbondale, stopped at Highway 82 and Original Road at 1 a.m. Sept. 6 for allegedly weaving.
