Aspen Fire District voters support taxes to fund wildfire mitigation

Voting shows support for sales tax increase for Aspen Fire District

As of 7:05 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5, with a 42.59% Pitkin County voter turnout, Aspen Fire Protection District ballot issue 6A saw 2,638 votes for the issue, or 75.37%, and 862 votes against, 24.63%.
Issue 6A asks voters to approve a .5% sales tax to help fund wildfire mitigation and response capabilities. The tax would pay for new personnel, equipment, and early fire detection and warning technology.
The tax would not apply to food sales “for domestic home consumption,” feminine hygiene products, prescription medicines, diapers, and other essential items.

As of Wendesday morning, Aspen Fire Protection District ballot issue 6B saw 2,853 votes for the issue, or 81.54%, and 646 votes against, or 18.46%.
Issue 6B asked voters to make permanent a property tax that helps to fund the Aspen Fire Protection District. The current rate would help replace outdated fire engines and assist in addressing infrastructure projects.
The mill levy, which was set at a rate of .24 mill, produced $1.075 million in 2025 for the district.
