Fireworks for Aspen Food & Wine?
ASPEN – The Aspen Chamber Resort Association has been in discussion with city officials and others about a fireworks display in June to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Aspen Food & Wine Classic. However, the ACRA is cognizant of a community “push-back” to too many pyrotechnics, said Debbie Braun, ACRA president. There were fireworks for the 25th anniversary of Food & Wine, she added during Tuesday’s ACRA board of directors meeting. The city has been getting complaints from residents about ad hoc, unexpected fireworks – particularly because the explosions frighten pets, said Mayor Mick Ireland.”If we can do it in a way that people can anticipate, we’ll work with that,” he said. The 30th anniversary of Food & Wine could be a sellout, added Bill Tomcich, president of local reservations agency Stay Aspen Snowmass.Pass sales for the June 15-17 event are pacing well ahead of last year, according to Tomcich. Locals shouldn’t count on being able to buy day passes to Food & Wine this year, he warned.
