Firefighters continue work on Colorado wildfire

NUCLA, Colo. – Firefighters in southwest Colorado are still battling a lightning-sparked blaze that’s threatening three cabins and an outbuilding.

Fire officials say the nearly 2-square-mile wildfire had only moderate burning Monday with weaker than expected winds.

The fire is on national forest land about 10 miles north of Nucla, 340 miles southwest of Denver. Fire spokesman Lee Ann Loupe (lowp) says crews also worked on 22 other smaller fires caused by lightning.

A helicopter, three fire engines, two bulldozers, two 20-person hotshot crews and 14 smokejumpers were working on the larger fire Tuesday.

Loupe says there is no estimate on how much of the fire is contained.
