Fire extinguished, businesses saved

Dear Editor:An early-morning call (2:45 a.m.) from the Basalt Police Department brought panic and then, moments later, relief as I was informed that a chance encounter had saved our business from the ash pile. The quick thinking and Boy Scout preparedness of Greg Meyer is all that stood between a flaming tinderbox of a flowerbox and the destruction of Caf Bernard and Transformation Yoga. On behalf of these businesses and upstairs property owners Jons and Barbara Milnor, we would like to express our gratitude to Greg (and his late shift at Snowmass), Martin and the Basalt Police Department, and Sardo and the Basalt & Rural Fire Protection District volunteers for their timely, efficient and professional assistance in the middle of an otherwise uneventful early Thursday morning. Merci beaucoup.Bernard MoffroidOwner, Caf BernardBasalt
