Fire burns West Buttermilk garage

ASPEN ” A fire burned a small outbuilding and garage to the ground at a West Buttermilk residence early Sunday morning.

The Aspen Volunteer Fire Department responded with 21 firefighters and two engines to the fire at 6:17 a.m., and found the buildings completely destroyed.

Firefighters were able to control the fire and closed down a venting natural gas line near the burned buildings by 7:13 a.m. according to an Aspen fire department press release.

Heavy snowfall Saturday night and large amounts of snow on the ground reportedly made access to the home difficult for firefighters.

No injuries were reported. Damage was estimated at $100,000, according to the department. The cause of the blaze is still is under investigation.
