Facts elude columnist

Dear Editor:

In her Thursday column (“Take a common-sense approach toward energy,” The Aspen Times), Melanie Sturm exhorts us plebes to “think again” about energy and then offers a series of bloopers as facts.

The U.S., she says, is now a “net energy exporter.” In the Fox Universe perhaps, but last time I checked we were still importing $1 billion per day of foreign oil, more than China and India together.

As for shale oil and gas plays, she says they will require “far fewer wells.” The truth? This year the U.S. will drill close to 50,000 wells – more than all other nations combined.

The rest of her screed against clean energy is equally unhinged, a vision in search of reality.
