Everybody wins with rec district
October 17, 2002
I’m writing in support of the Crown Mountain Park and Recreation District. I encourage all midvalley voters to approve this valuable and necessary plan. By forming this district we will do more than simply provide a wonderful amenity to our neighborhoods.
I expect to pay somewhere between $75 and $100 a year toward the district. So after 10 years I might have invested $1,000. Well the way I see it, my property value will increase by much more because, with a recreation district, the midvalley will be an even more desirable place to raise a family.
However, my motivation isn’t equity; it is to make sure that my 7-year-old has a safe place to play soccer and baseball, to skateboard and ride his bike. In fact, the Crown Mountain Park and Recreation District will help to coordinate many midvalley recreational opportunities.
As a funding mechanism, we will be able to apply for GoCo lottery funds and other grants. One of the primary reasons I stayed in this valley when I visited 22 years ago was for the recreation. And we need the ability to fund it.
Some people want an ice rink, others a pool, while some have expressed interest in a performing arts center of some sort. Well, without the initial formation of this district, none of this will be possible.
In the interest of a vital and vibrant midvalley, please vote yes on ballot questions 4D, 4E and 4F. Everybody wins.
