Event to close road to the Bells

ASPEN ” Saturday morning is out for anyone planning a trip up to the Maroon Bells this weekend.
The Aspen High Country Triathlon/Duathlon is scheduled Saturday, Aug. 18 and the biking portion of the event will take place between the Aspen Recreation Center and the Maroon Bells along Maroon Creek Road.
To accommodate the competitors, the road will be closed to travel between the Forest Service entrance station and the Bells/Maroon Lake from 7 a.m. to noon.
In addition, RFTA bus service to the Bells will be suspended until the end of the event, which begins and ends at the ARC.

Current Basalt officials say the town government has violated the Colorado Taxpayers’ Bill of Right by increasing the property tax mill levy over the prior years 10 times since the mid-2000s. Two former mayors contend the mill levy could be adjusted in any given year as long as it didn’t exceed the mill levy in 1994. It’s a $2 million question.
