Eugene S. Mason

Eugene S. Mason, 84, passed away May 30, 2006.He was born in Denver on Jan. 15, 1922. He was a veteran of World War II. He moved to Aspen in the 1950s and enjoyed many different occupations. Most notably he worked for the Aspen Skiing Co., Magnifico Sports, Magnifico Liquor and finally Pitkin County Road and Bridge. He was a volunteer fireman for the Aspen Fire Department and for a period of time he served on the board. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. In the early 1990s he moved to Denver to be closer to his family, and in 2005 he moved to San Diego to be closer to his granddaughter. Gene is survived by his son, Christopher; brothers, Donald and Newell; sister, Marie; granddaughter, Kira; and numerous nieces and nephews.A Mass will take place at St. Mary Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, with a graveside service following at Red Butte Cemetery. Immediately afterward, a reception will be at the Elks Club, and all are welcome.
