Ernest R. Spaccarelli
An avid skier and horseman who leaves behind a loving family and numerous cowboy boots, “Ernie” passed away May 20 in his home in South Beach, Fla., after a brief battle with cancer.
Ernie was a resident of Aspen since 1967. He mastered the slopes, skiing on everything from long metal skis with lace-up boots, short skis with buckle boots and parabolic skis with foam-injected boots.
During summers, Ernie and his wife, Selma, were extensively involved with horses, riding both Western and dressage. Ernie rode for pleasure and participated in competitions in Colorado and California.
When not on skis or on a horse, Ernie’s passion for speed and horses translated to horsepower under the hood of a fast sports car.
A memorial celebration will be held this summer in Aspen.
He is survived by his wife, Selma Feldman Spaccarelli, his daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Gary Gettleman, of Santa Cruz, Calif., and 200-plus pairs of cowboy boots.
