Emulating Vail?

Aspen Times writer

Dear Editor:

I never thought I’d see the day when we would have to go to Vail to figure out what to do in Aspen.

Mark Twain once said, “an expert witness is someone from out of town.” Well, we didn’t even know we had that big of a problem with turf until we hired someone from Colorado Springs to tell us we did. The next time you drive through Vail, take a close overall look. Is that what we want? They don’t even have a Main Street; where’s their visitors center?

Please, let’s make do with what we have and share the parks with the dogs, the gum chewers, the picnickers, the sunflower-seed spitters and any one else who wants to enjoy something on the natch.

Now, let’s get down to the real needs of Aspen: When I was in Las Vegas a few weeks ago, I couldn’t help but noticing the fake bricks in the mall. Oh, never mind …
