Embarrassment in Snowmass

Several times a week I walk the trail around the Snowmass Village golf course. What happened to the beautiful cottonwood trees that have graced our town entry for decades? This, to be stated mildly, is an embarrassment.

According to an explanation provided by Hunt Walker, public works director, he was “instructed” to remove the trees in order to provide a “VISUAL CONNECTION from the future ballpark to the current town park for the JAS music festivals.”

What’s wrong with this picture? The desecration of “historic cottonwoods” so we can have a visual connection for an event that might or might not happen this Labor Day? Who’s making decisions for the town these days, and for what benefit?

I ask each one of you to stop and take a look at what the town has done to “our” beautiful trees.
