Elks Club hits a home run

Dear Editor:

I’m writing to publicly thank the Aspen Elks Club. I’m a 10-year veteran of coaching baseball, softball and football for the kids in our valley and wouldn’t be able to have a program to coach if it weren’t for the very generous sponsorship of the Elks Club.

Our Little League program in Aspen has gone from 13 kids to over 50! Of course with the extra participation comes the cost of extra equipment and uniforms. The Aspen Elks Club has sponsored four teams this year, Aspen and Basalt Juniors (13-14 year olds), Aspen/Basalt Girls Softball (12-14) and the Aspen Minors team (8-10), plus they’ve set up a sponsorship fund for those families that can’t afford the player fee! What a difference they’re making in the lives of these kids to enable them to get outside, learn what being part of a team means, and learn the joy of the diamond!

I would personally and publicly like to thank them, and would strongly encourage all of the players and especially the scholarship players to write and thank them also.

I also need to acknowledge my employer, The Roaring Fork Club, for allowing me the flexibility with my salaried hours to torture, I mean coach, these kids every afternoon.
