Elizabeth R. McKechnie

Elizabeth R. McKechnie, of Car­bondale, passed away May 10, 2008, at the age of 97.

Betty was born April 10, 1911, in Baltimore, Md. She married Dwight L. McKechnie in 1941. After having lived in New England for many years, Betty moved to Carbondale in 2001, at the age of 90, after visiting family here frequently. She dearly loved this valley and the opportunity to spend her final years in Colorado.

She would like to be remembered as a loving wife, mother, teacher and school librarian. Betty also painted landscapes in oil and watercolors and loved to share her watercolor flower bookmarks. She loved Mount Sopris, and her remains will be scat­tered on the mountain in a private ceremony. She will be sorely missed.

Survivors include her daughter Sal­ly Miller and son-in-law Phil Miller, of Carbondale; daughter Nancy Keese, of Cambridge, N.Y.; grandchildren Meghan and Bevin, of N.Y.; great­grandchldren Lola, Arjen and Rio; and brother, Henry Clay Ruark Jr., of Creswell, Oregon.
