Elizabeth Nye

Elizabeth “Betty” Nye, a longtime employee with the Basalt Police Department, died June 7 in Aspen.

Nye had been living in the valley since 1980, and had worked for the Basalt Police Department for the past 18 years. Prior to that, she worked for police departments in Aspen, Denver and Westminster, and the Denver Water Department.

Nye enjoyed hobbies such as collecting Beanie Babies, boating, fishing and shopping. She also loved the outdoors. She was a person who had a very strong sense of family and friends.

She is survived by her husband Larry W. Nye, of El Jebel; mother Alice R. Jones of Denver; children Kristine (Kelly) Green of Glenwood Springs, Tara and Donald Green of Maryland, and Libby K. Nye Mclead and Ryan S. Mclead of Buffalo, N.Y.; brother Robert H. Jones of Littleton; and grandchild Conner Green.

Services were held at the Basalt Police Department Saturday. Burial followed at Fairview Cemetery in Basalt.
